Creating a Dialogue against Fascism: Lessons from the Protests against Charlie Kirk

On March 14, Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) visited UC Davis on behalf of the organization's branch on campus. I went to the event with some friends to watch the crowd protest and to be a part of something contentious at Davis. As we watched the crowd of protestors outside the U Center, an apolitical friend of mine commented, "This is scary." "What is?" I asked as we watched a group of police in riot gear rush toward the back of the U Center, where the protest had moved.

The Importance of Public Debate In the Modern Era

Last Saturday, the Davis Political Review hosted a public debate between the Davis College Republicans and the New Liberals club. The event was the first of its kind in Davis where student panelists questioned other students with differing perspectives on topics ranging from freedom of speech, campus violence, foreign policy, and inflation while providing them with a platform to civilly discuss their different opinions. We would like to thank the New Liberals club and the Davis College Republicans for their participation in this debate. As a nonpartisan organization, we in the DPR understand the value of our free speech, and most importantly the duty we hold to protect it.

Weaponizing Water: How China Controls the Mekong

The Mekong river is one of the longest rivers in the world, flowing from Tibet where it collects melting snow from the Himalayas in China, through Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Every year this major waterway oscillates alongside the rainy season when a massive pulse of water swells the river as monsoon rains and Himalayan melted snow flows downstream.
